My name's Daniel Grant. I'm an American TV host and you probably know me from my late night show on NBC. I'm an entertainer with heart and soul. My idol is, as ridiculous it sounds to many, Miss Oprah Winfrey. She's an American icon and there is no way you haven't watched her show at least once in your life. There isn't much about me to know. I'm a simple guy and enjoy my privacy - no matter my profession. Therefore, asking no questions about my personal life is something I'd grateful for.

Drive Home || Daniel & Meaghan

As soon as she saw his smile, hers grew even wider. He had that effect on everyone, especially her, and she nodded towards him. “Take your time!” She chuckled as she leaned her body against the door frame. It seemed as though Daniel was replying to fan mail, which she thought was incredibly sweet. Most celebrities didn’t even look through fan mail and the fact that Daniel did showed that he cared. “If you need, I can help with those as well!” A personal assistant meant many things to her - grabbing coffee for someone, scheduling appointments, and even answering fan mail for their bosses. It was a particularly odd job she went into but Daniel looked at her as a peer rather than an assistant. 

As soon as he rose from the chair, she focused on him. She didn’t want to seem like she had been thinking too much, seeing as though that always got her into trouble. “Great!” She turned herself and began walking down the hall, sensing Daniel right behind her. “So, how are you?” Meaghan thought it was a silly question seeing as though they work together but today was a bit different. They didn’t really work side by side like they usually did so she felt like she hadn’t seen him all day. 

“I’m always in the best mood, just not around Christmas. My parents cancelled, so I’m leaving for a trip to the Hamptons on my own.” He explained and his smile vanished a little, as he considered his family surely nerve-racking, but they were his family after all and he loved them. “How about yourself? You got any plans for the big day?” He forced a smile back to his lips, wanted to appear polite and friendly, when he had been feeling quite low the past few days due to the fact that his parents indirectly made clear that their oldest son wasn’t worth a plane ticket to New York. He really didn’t think they’d disappoint him that much. But he better moved on, and pushed the depressive thoughts away. He wasn’t the kind of guy to be feeling sad. He had always been the one to make jokes in his family when everyone else was and make them smile again.

Wearing a grey coat over his suit and a scarf, it wasn’t all too cold when Daniel stepped outside. He held the door open for Meaghan and after she had walked out as well, he shoved his free hand into his pocket, while carrying the plastic blag with the other. Making their way around the building to the parking lot, he thought about how close Meaghan and him had gotten in the past sixth months and he was happy having a friend like her by his side. She really was the only person he was close to. Sure, he wasn’t as much of a workaholic as Meaghan was, but he payed too much attention on who to trust especially with photographers around, ready to ruin his career at any chance, and so he ended up being alone for yet another year in the city.

Drive Home || Daniel & Meaghan

It was a late night for NBC. The holidays were slowly and surely creeping up on everyone and NBC was trying their hardest to get everything ready. Christmas specials, talk shows, guest stars have been swarming the studio and the office had been a bit more intense than usual. Unfortunately for anyone in the showbiz, they know, work doesn’t get easier during the holidays. 

As Meaghan packed up the last of her things for the night, she had totally forgot that Daniel would be driving her home. She usually would just take a taxi or the subway but Daniel had insisted on taking her home and she figured it would be a perfect time for the two to spend some time together. They had been getting closer to one another and she couldn’t deny how happy she felt around Daniel. 

She threw her purse over her shoulder and walked down the hallway to his office. “Hey.” She said softly as she peaked her head around the corner. “You ready?” She smiled as she took a step in his office when she realized he wasn’t too busy. 

There wasn’t really a time when Daniel would be found in the large office NBC had given him when he signed the contract, since he was more a person to be around the studio and prepare his show or talk to people. He wasn’t the office-working-kind-of-guy, in fact, he hated it. The plain white or grey walls and no sound but the thrumming of the computers really drove him nuts.

Today, however, he was getting all the fan mail together people left daily at his office and made a promise to himself that he’d answer them over Christmas, since he wouldn’t have anything to do anyways, and he appreciated his fans more than any other person at NBC, at least he’d been told so.

When he heard a voice, he turned around and a smile appeared on his face. He’d almost forgotten he had promised his assistant to drive her home. “Almost. One second” He answered and put a few letters, it were about one dozen, into a plastic bag. “Done” He said with a satisfied grin and approached Meaghan, indicating her to leave for the parking lot.

I’m completely screwing up Daniel’s role. I think he’s gotten a tad too goody-to-shoes lately. And instead of being a smooth talker, I just find him annoying. No idea how to change that, though. Guess it’s my weird mood.

Oh well it’s a great honor to know that you watched my movie. Aren’t I just a little flattered. By the way, I really think I should be on your show again, I had a blast, my next movie, I’ll have my peeps, call yours. ;)

Sounds like you’re coming on my show next time again. I don’t think the viewers will mind and neither will I, to be honest. Last time was fun.

Delaney smiled and nodded, she looked at him and shook her head, “Oh no my flight isn’t until tomorrow, I’m headed back to Los Angeles for a little” she said and rolled her eyes playfully, she loved New York, it was the place she called home, so going to the heat of California, she didn’t really enjoy too much. She looked at him and looked down at her Blackberry and saw that she was free that night she often, didn’t do this but the thought of being alone that night pretty much disgusted her, “Would you want to go for a bite to eat for dinner?” she asked him curiously and pushed her blonde hair over her shoulder.

She heard some of her fans screaming her name as someone had walked out the door, she couldn’t help but love her fans, besides they were who gave her the opportunity to do what she loved most, which was be on set with the lights and the cameras. Looking over her shoulder at the door she smiled a little and then back over at Daniel with a smile. She heard her phone go off and she held up her finger it was her manager again, “Hello. Hi there.” she heard that everything was going to be delayed a few days, she tried not to yell and through a tantrum like she would have if she knew Daniel wasn’t standing there, “Oh… okay.” She said and then hung up quickly.

She was an actress, so she acted as though it didn’t bother her that the interview was being delayed a few days. She pursed her red lips together softly and turned her attention back to him, “So dinner? My treat” she said her voice soft and convincing. She slid her phone into the pocket of her coat and gave him a soft smile, that wasn’t as strong as the one she had given him previously.

Daniel was more than surprised that Delaney invited him to dinner. He had wanted to order something anyway, but nobody said no to having a nice company. Without thinking about it for long, he nodded and his grin widened. “I’d love to!”, he said, pointing with both hands behind him. “I’ll get my things quickly and say goodbye to everyone from the crew. Would you give me five minutes? We could meet at my car, it parked behind the building. Or are you here with your own?” He strongly doubted that someone like the blonde let a taxi bring her anywhere, but also that she sat behind the wheel herself and so, if she was here with her car, it certainly was waiting on the parking lot together with a chauffeur.

He himself had never thought much of it. Of course, it was a symbol of status and luxury, but it was also unnecessary. Driving had always been a feeling of freedom and independence for him when he was younger and it still was, why would you give that up? Only for the convenience sake? Probably not.

Delaney walked off the set and to the back to gather her things and to thank her stylists for coming and helping her look at great as she had on the show. She bit at her lower lip gently, a nervous habit that she had since she was a child. On her way to leave she grabbed her coat and slipped it over the red dress that she had worn on the show. She checked her phone and saw that her road manager was letting her know that the following day she had to leave for an interview with US Weekly, in Los Angeles, California. She loved her job but the traveling, was too much for this actress, she often would end up jet lagged.

Making her way out of the room she found someone who looked like staff and walked over, “Excuse, I was curious if I may say goodbye to Mr. Grant” she said with a smile. It stood there for a moment and then she saw Daniel, she walked over towards him, a smile on her face and extended her hand to him. He was such a gentleman, most of the TV hosts that she had met usually tried to grope her so it was a nice change, “I just want to thank you personally, for having me on your show. It was a lot of fun” she said, as she lightly tilted her head, giving him her award winning smile, as a blonde curl fell in front of her face. She straightened out her head and moved her curl from her face, “And I thought a thank you and a goodbye would be much more appropriate rather than a letter from my team later” she said and gave him a nod. There was something about him that was very different from most. Something that she liked, that made him more genuine than most.

Different from what he’d expected and been told, Delaney McCoy was by far one of the most pleasant guests he had had on his show. Of course, a lot of celebrities were nice while the camera was on, but it surprised him every time again how fake their friendliness later turned out to be.

The blonde actually kept being nice and modest, two characteristics he liked a lot about the opposite gender, or both — for that matter. To top it off, however, Delaney did not seem like a woman who was using her gorgeous outward appearance to get the things in life she wanted, but this witty mind of hers he enjoyed while having her on the show.

The audience was pleased and so was he — all in all a win-win situation for both sides. “No, no. I have to thank you. And yes, this is much more personal than a formal letter” He replied and shot her a smile. He then guessed it was time for her to leave, he had overheard a phone call with her manager sooner and how he told her about having to leave in time to catch the flight to L.A., and so he didn’t want to add any further acknowledgments to their conversation. “May I show you the exit? I assume your schedule is very busy and I wouldn’t want you to be late at another important appointment.”

@ Backstage || Delaney McCoy 

The show was over. And since more than ten minutes, fans of the famous actress Delaney McCoy cooled their heels outside the studios. That only one person was standing outside in the cold and waited for him, Daniel Grant, seemed extremely unlikely if not merely impossible to him. He was not able to keep up with the new Hollywood elite, despite the high audience rating his show scored every week and wasn’t too sure if he even wanted it. This show, his show was more than he, in his wildest dreams, could have imagined and he was infinitely grateful to have been given this opportunity.

Of course, now in retrospect, where he could live the high life, if he only was the type for that, his parents insisted on the statement, that back then, when the great career of her son had still only been written in the stars, they had been on his side and had his back, but anyone in his hometown could confirm, that this was anything, but true. No, his parents had only been able to warm up to the idea of seeing their son on the screen, after he had signed the contract with NBC and was nominated for several awards.

“Daniel, Miss McCoy wants to say goodbye”, a production assistant let him know and he just nodded, thanked her with a charming smile and made his way to the part of the backstage area, where the makeup for each guest and himself was being applied. “Delaney,” Daniel exclaimed when he saw the blonde, and came toward her, the grin – for which he was almost famous for – still on the lips. “It was a great show, thank you,” He said, shaking her hand, as he thought he’d be stepping over a mark by giving her a brief kiss on the cheek or the back of her hand, and he did not want to appear slimy, like some other hosts he knew did.
